An Upright Figure: Sketch for a Collective Monograph, 2024

An Upright Figure: Sketch for a Collective Monograph refers to a group of people who began appearing unannounced in different locations across Belgrade in the autumn 2022, when the project Showing Up was launched. The group assembles in silence, stands together for a short time, and then scatters in different directions—only to reappear elsewhere.

One such appearance took place on 26 October 2024 in front of the Cultural Centre of Belgrade, at one of the city’s busiest spots. For the first time, this occurrence was followed by a public interpretation, presented on the same evening to an invited audience on the stage of the Cultural Centre’s cinema hall. The interpretations were delivered in two distinct formats: a discussion featuring Tamara Krstić, Vesna Perić, and Olga Nikolić, and a series of free, associative stage interventions performed by actor Slobodan Beštić. The appearance and its interpretations were accompanied by large posters installed on the façade of the Cultural Centre.

The event and installation were produced as part of the 60th October Salon, in collaboration with researchers from the Institute for Philosophy and Social Theory and the Faculty of Architecture, University of Belgrade. Footage and photographs documenting the event were used in this video.
